Privacy policy.
Draft for review. The final version will be published before AdventLink launches.
Who we are
AdventLink helps Seventh-day Adventist members, churches, conferences and organizations find, host and join local events and meetups. The app is run by [Company legal name] (“AdventLink”, “we”). Questions about this policy: privacy@adventlinkapp.com.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t show ads.
What we collect
Information you give us:
- Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash by our login provider) or your Apple or Google sign-in, and your agreement to these documents.
- Your birthday, which we use only to work out whether you’re a teen (13–17) or an adult. Anyone under 13 can’t create an account, and we keep nothing they entered.
- Profile details you choose to add: photo, bio, interests, links, profession, relationship status, and your home church. Relationship status and profession are only searchable if you turn that on.
- Your city (your “general area”), which you pick or which we look up once from your phone’s location, rounded to about a kilometre.
- Things you do in the app: events and meetups you create, RSVPs, saved events, follows, blocks, invites, messages, reports and support requests.
- For church and conference accounts: the details you submit when claiming an account, and your role there, which we may confirm with your conference.
Location
AdventLink never stores your exact location. Events near you are based on the city you choose. If you use “near me” on the map, your phone’s approximate location (rounded to about a kilometre) is used for that view only and isn’t saved.
Event venues are the places hosts choose to share. On a private event, the venue stays hidden until the host approves you.
Information collected automatically
- A push notification token for your device, if you allow notifications, so we can send them. It’s removed when you sign out.
- Basic technical records our hosting provider keeps to run and secure the service (for example, request times and error messages). We don’t use advertising identifiers or tracking across other apps and websites.
How we use it
- To run the app: your profile, events, RSVPs, messages and notifications.
- To show events and people near you, based on your city.
- To keep people safe: teen protections, blocking, reports and moderation.
- To confirm church and conference accounts before they go live.
- To send notifications and account emails you’ve asked for or that we need to send (like password resets or deletion confirmations).
- To answer support requests and fix problems.
Who can see what
- Public profiles: your name, photo, bio, links, events and followers. Private profiles show only your name, photo and handle to people who don’t follow you.
- Teen accounts are always private, never appear in people search, and adults can’t message a teen who doesn’t follow them.
- Your church sees your name and email only if you ask to be listed as a member and agree to share them.
- Private events: only the host, co-hosts and approved guests see the venue, details and guest list.
- Messages: only the people in the conversation, plus AdventLink moderators if a message is reported.
Service providers
We share information only with companies that help us run AdventLink, and only what they need:
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and file storage (United States).
- Apple and Google: sign-in if you choose it; Apple Maps (iPhone) and Google Maps (Android) show maps in the app.
- Expo, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver push notifications.
- [Email provider]: sends account and notification emails.
- Photon / OpenStreetMap: when a host searches for a venue, the search text is sent to this place-search service. OpenFreeMap supplies map tiles on the web.
Other sharing
We may share information if the law requires it, to protect someone from serious harm, or to protect AdventLink’s rights and users. If AdventLink is ever transferred to another organization, this policy would continue to apply to your information.
How long we keep it
- Your information stays while your account is open.
- When you delete your account, it’s hidden right away and permanently deleted after 30 days (sign back in before then to keep it). Messages you sent and your photos are deleted too.
- Reports you filed and our moderation and security records keep only an anonymous id after deletion.
- Backups may hold copies for a limited time before they roll over.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information in your profile and settings.
- Download a copy of your data: Settings → Download my data.
- Delete your account: Settings → Delete account, or at adventlinkapp.com/delete-account.
- Make your profile private, block people, and turn notifications or location off at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights to know, correct or delete your information. Contact privacy@adventlinkapp.com; we respond within 30 days and won’t treat you differently for asking.
Children and teens
AdventLink is for people 13 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13; the age check happens before an account exists, and nothing is kept if someone is under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Teens (13–17) have extra protections: private profiles, no appearance in people search, no messages from adults they don’t follow, and they can’t share relationship status or be church delegates.
Security
Access to data is enforced in our database for every request, staff access requires two-factor sign-in and is logged, and data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we’ll tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we make meaningful changes, we’ll update this policy and ask you to review and agree to it in the app before you continue.
